26 more sites using wood

October 1st, 2008

Knock, Knock…

I did a roundup a while back on sites that used coffee in their theme, 26 of them in fact, and it had a nice response, so today I decided to give you 26 more sites that use wood as a texture in their layout. You have probably seen some of these before, but hopefully there are some that you haven’t. As I stated in my previous roundup, I am not saying I love cliches, but some of these are better than others. What do you think, is this just another trend, or a great design choice? Or does it depend on the site?

I think that these kind of list filling my rss reader begin to be really boring…
90% of the blogs posts these days are “20+ awesome this” and “53+ amazing that” “500+ sites listing 250+ wonderful free floral brushes”

Hey Matt, these are awesome. Particularly love the 2Pitch and Federica Cau ones. BTW, I just released a free pack of wood textures if anyone’s interested: http://www.texturewell.com/2008/09/texture-pack-woody-goody/

    Cheers.

opfa, I agree, which is why this post is not completely about inspiration, rather it is posted under trends. You decide if you think it is a source of inspiration or not.

Thank you for your input though.

Maria, thanks so much for stopping by, and I will have to check out that pack. You really put out some quality stuff on your site.

Hey Matt. Great selection. I hate to jump on the bandwagon but I really love the wood effect on sites. I wrote a very small article ages ago in my first days of blogging:

    http://www.redswish.co.uk/woody-websites/

and I’ve also built a site recently that uses a wood effect background:

    http://www.m60flooring.com

I know, I know it sounds like I’m pimping myself, sorry! Just trying to contribute!

Hey Nathan, I think it is a case-by-case design choice, there are some that look great, some not so great.

I am working on a site for my Dad, and he is a contractor, so there is a wood background on it. I will be launching it shortly, so be sure to check back.

You’re not pimping yourself heh, thanks for sharing!

Hey thanks Max, glad you appreciate it.

As a prefaced this post, some of the sites are better than others, and some are just there as a learning device, be it “good” or “bad” design choices.
