Web Design that is neat.

IE6 WILL NEVER DIE.

Show me only what I want

December 18th, 2007

Recently the search giant Google has rolled out a new option from their Labs that is showing up for selected users. Their goal is to allow you to as the end user a way to

influence your search experience by adding, moving, and removing search results.

I have not had the chance to experience this feature yet, but I am assuming keeping with the trends and their other applications, this will follow suit with probably some ajaxy interface. Never the less it sounds extremely interesting and possibly very rewarding for those frustrated searchers that are dealing with massive amounts of spam, and keyword sites while trying to reach their desired results.

I should probably mention that while in theory this s a great idea and hopefully will in some form or another be put into play I still think the Web should be just that,

a system of interlinked, hypertext documents accessed via the internet.

Search engines are used to quickly access hypertext documents containing information and keywords based on your search query. They can also be a gateway into finding something you were not intentionally looking for when you began your search, but found something else to be rather intriguing. This is the beauty of the web. You can start on one topic and end up in an entirely different genre or subject in a matter of seconds.

This new feature seems like it would be used by a more advanced user and not so much the occasional baby booming surfer. I think a nice feature that Google could add would be just a simple “this site sucks” note next to those that should be deemed as such, that way we are not wasting anyones time visiting some spamming, phishing mess of a bloated buggy JavaScript nightmare. Why should we the users have to refine our search? Heh. The all mighty Google should know exactly what I am trying to find by whatever I choose to put into the search field.

If you have had a chance to try this new feature out, I would be interested in hearing your feelings, likes or dislikes. Let us all know.
