Semantic product display using a definition list

August 20th, 2008

A valid and semantic approach to display products using a definition list

Remember the definition list? Hopefully you do, and yet again hopefully you are using it when necessary. It is a great HTML spec that has even better hooks for styling than the normal unordered or ordered list can offer straight out of the box. That is not to say it can and should be used in place of either the above mentioned, but when used properly it can be a great addition to your markup. Let’s see how we can use a definition list to properly markup and style a typical product display.

Post Trading: Series 1

August 15th, 2008

I would like to say sorry for not posting a Friday’s Five this week. To tell you the truth, I did not want to post just “anything”, and this week’s picks were slim to none. Hopefully next week will offer more. Make sure to check back!

Back to post trading…

So this week I traded posts with Angie Bowen of the Arbent Blog,  a creative and design inspired blog. Angie asked me to give my thoughts on dealing with clients, so I wrote a post entitled “Tips on Dealing with Difficult Clients”. The main point I was trying to get across was that confidence is key when dealing with clients, and meeting their expectations. I gave 3 top level tips that you can use when you are starting a new project, or if you just want to step back and reassess your workflow.

This was my first post trade, of hopefully many, many more. If you are interested in trading posts with me, feel free to use the contact form to get in touch with me.

Design Shui: The Art of Creative Work Environments

August 13th, 2008

When it comes to creating, and overall just being creative, so many factors come into play to keep the imagination churning and the ideas flowing. And these elements are all taken in to account by the creator. So much care is given to each detail of the tools that the artist will use to shape whatever design they see in their mind’s eye. Each of the materials chosen for their adept nature for blending with the artist’s own, and flowing to create a harmony of motion that both feeds off of and feeds inspiration. But one important area that can play a pivotal role in the artist’s expressive capabilities, and by some can be underestimated or completely overlooked, is the importance of a highly creative work environment.

CSS Frameworks, just make your own

July 24th, 2008

While in theory, and from an educational standpoint I do not have a problem with CSS Frameworks. On the other hand, I do not personally see a point in relying on one that someone else made, for my projects.

First things first.

Mini-Facelift

July 18th, 2008

Sorry guys, I only have a half day today so there will not be a Friday’s Five.

Bad news aside for a moment, I did do some minor/major changes to the site this week, as you might have noticed.

Changes:

  1. Sidebar has been relocated to the right now
  2. Added a “ShareThis” link to the bottom of each post, so you can…share it
  3. Removed the old “quicklinks” section and replaced it with “popular posts
  4. Changed the colors a bit. Before there was too much blue, and this is part of an idea I am working o, so it is a work in progress

Anyway, there were some other minor things, but nothing too whacky. Have an awesome weekend.

What do you think about the changes?
