Mini-Facelift
July 18th, 2008
Sorry guys, I only have a half day today so there will not be a Friday’s Five.
Bad news aside for a moment, I did do some minor/major changes to the site this week, as you might have noticed.
Changes:
- Sidebar has been relocated to the right now
- Added a “ShareThis” link to the bottom of each post, so you can…share it
- Removed the old “quicklinks” section and replaced it with “popular posts“
- Changed the colors a bit. Before there was too much blue, and this is part of an idea I am working o, so it is a work in progress
Anyway, there were some other minor things, but nothing too whacky. Have an awesome weekend.
What do you think about the changes?

looking good, just updated my own site as it was getting a bit old.
Thanks Will, I just stopped over at your site. Can’t say that I saw it before, but I like the simplicity of it, and the minimalist look.
I like this setup a lot better than the old one. Great colors and the layout (important stuff left, subnavigation right instead of vice versa) has improved a lot too.
Tip: maybe it’s a good idea to start experimenting with highlights. Try to make certain stuff grab the attention by coloring specific parts a bit more intense than the rest of the site. Very handy for future commercial assignments (we use it for USP’s and promotional stuff).
Thanks Niels. Definitely note worthy on the emphasizing mention, which I will think out for the re-design with the launch of mattrossidesigns.com in the next few months.
It’s usually nothing more than basic contrast games with color and … well.. contrast. But single ling out certain elements can be tricky since they tend to break the feel of your layout. Especially when using less vibrant color patterns like you did for this site.
Just paste in the ugliest 468 banner you can find and cry over the result.
Very good point, as I might start including some sponsor links on the site. I guess for the time being, this begger will also have to be a chooser heh.
