Musical Web Design

July 8th, 2008

As often as I enjoy hearing new music, it is always nice to be able to turn to a favorite artist in times of need…Which is why I wanted to share with you some of my musically inspiring artists for coding, and designing.

slayer.jpgSlayer is definitely a good Monday canidadate. You need to get in, get your coffee, and get back into the swing of things. Slayer will definitely help jump start the thought process. They also work out well for when you are in a bind, or under a strong deadline. “REIGN IN BLOOOOOOOOOOOOD”. When you are in mood to just kick back and try out some new design ideas, 311 works wonders. Another close second would have to be Portishead, followed by Jolie Holland, and the Allman Brothers.

I really enjoy going to Purevolume and just searching by genre for different and new artists. Songza is also a great resource.

Top 5 Purevolume artists I frequent:

  1. Impending Doom
  2. A Life Once Lost
  3. Despised Icon
  4. See You Next Tuesday
  5. Beneath The Massacre

Ok, so I’ve shared some of mine, what about you guys? What gets you motivated, and why?

Musical Web Design - What music motivates you?

What kind of music motivates you to get the most out of your designs?

Have to agree with Portishead. I quite like the White Stripes in the studio but my top 5 would be….

    Radiohead
    Pixies
    The Libertines
    Grid
    Huey Lewis and the News

    Strange mix I know!

Portishead is amazing. very relaxing, but sometimes you need that extra bit of energy to get into some code up to your knees.

Nice list, although radiohead might make me want to take my own life haha before I get a chance to finish the project.

Love listening to Red Sparrows while thinking of design ideas.

Then I need something like Nada Surf, Brand New’s new cd, or Between the Buried and Me.

Then when I feel like kicking it into high gear I throw on some BrainDrill, that shit will make your neighbors dead relative’s ear’s bleed.

Opeth and Mastodon usually bring out the best in my designs it seems.

Lately I’ve been brainstorming to Scar Symmetry or Russian Circles.

Jesse, yea, you’re pretty much dead on about Brain Drill!

Jesse, forgot to mention BTBAM, good looking out.

Also, to both of you and Chris, thanks for sharing Brain Drill, good stuff. Just went to their purevolume page, great stuff.

Sometimes, Psyopus offers a similar effect.
