Revisiting: I’m a Mac, I’m a PC

May 28th, 2008

I had written a post a little while back, about how I am in the market to get a new computer and wanted to go the Mac route. Thank you to all for you input so far. My reason for revisiting this topic is because I was thinking about some concerns I was having:

  • If I got an iMac, what happens if the screen is damaged? Is the computer pretty much done?
  • Same goes for the Macbook Pro, what if the keypad breaks?

Now I know as far as the keypad goes, that can happen (and does) with any laptop, but I was more concerned with the iMac screen, and how it is all in one. I really like the idea that it is compact and all together. I suppose you could just buy another display and run it just as a machine…Does warranty cover damage or problems with the iMac display? Is it worth the extra money for the warranty in the first place? Would a desktop be the best, or safest bet still?

Sound off like you got a pair.

I’m a Mac, I’m a PC

April 8th, 2008

Yeah, we have probably all seen the infamous Mac vs. PC commercials by now that Apple puts out. This isn’t a bashing post, or anything like that, but rather simply I am looking for your input on which Mac I should buy. This will be my first Mac purchase, however I am no stranger to the other white meat. I am going to be doing mostly design, and some animation on it, so keep that in mind.

To set a baseline here of what I am looking for:

  • Lots of RAM
  • Decent size monitor (I don’t need the 30 inch, regardless of how much of my drool is already on it)
  • I am open to machines (Tower vs. Laptop, and curious as to your opinions on each)
  • As far as pricing goes, I don’t want to break the bank, but perhaps no more than $3k

So there you have it. I am pretty much open to all your input and direction.

Thanks!

Edit: I actually already own multiple PC’s, so I am just in the market for a Mac at this point.

Show me only what I want

Recently the search giant Google has rolled out a new option from their Labs that is showing up for selected users. Their goal is to allow you to as the end user a way to

influence your search experience by adding, moving, and removing search results.

I have not had the chance to experience this feature yet, but I am assuming keeping with the trends and their other applications, this will follow suit with probably some ajaxy interface. Never the less it sounds extremely interesting and possibly very rewarding for those frustrated searchers that are dealing with massive amounts of spam, and keyword sites while trying to reach their desired results.
