A lot of thought went into this…
November 6th, 2007
Is how the old saying goes, and in this case it is absolutely true. This is my first blog posting so I felt a lot of pressure to try and write about something “special” or “never been done before”, but then I realized that I should just roll with the punches and get this first one out of the way.
I enjoy reading interesting blogs, and one that came to mind that I recently read fits perfectly within the scope of this post.
When people ask me for advice on blogging, I always respond with yet another form of the same advice: pick a schedule you can live with, and stick to it. Until you do that, none of the other advice I could give you will matter. I don’t care if you suck at writing. I don’t care if nobody reads your blog. I don’t care if you have nothing interesting to say. If you can demonstrate a willingness to write, and a desire to keep continually improving your writing, you will eventually be successful.
As the above quote from my favorite blogger Jeff Atwood stated three important points:
- I don’t care if you suck at writing
- I don’t care if nobody reads your blog
- I don’t care if you have nothing interesting to say
In response:
- I don’t think I suck at writing, but I know my strengths and weaknesses, and like anything else, will get better with practice
- Well, since this is the first post, I haven’t had any readers yet…(hopefully that will change)
- Finally, what is less interesting than talking about having nothing to say?
I am going to work on my schedule and go from there. But in the meantime what you can look forward to from this blog will be posts on Web Design & Developing, Technology in general, Life, Politics, and Music amongst others.

I like comments…
Hey ya Matt, the site looks spiffy. I especially like the subtlety in the drop shadows (far too many sites go drop shadow crazy), slight gradients, and overall warmth of the site. It has character and feels very personable. Congrats on the launch and good luck to your future!
Hey Clay,
Thanks for the first comment hah, and at that the kind words.
I agree about some sites going hog-wild with depth. I am still working on little things here and there, but overall I am happy with the outcome.
Once again, thanks!
Firstly…I second Clay’s sentiment about the gradients…very nice. Specifically the gradients that frame the boxes near the footer. It’s clear that you have paid attention to the “subtle” details.
I’ve recently sold a few sites to focus on blogging and design. I have yet to write my first post on my personal blog, but I understand where you are coming from just starting a new blog. Wish you the BEST!
I am happy that I have gotten positive feedback so far, from yourself and Clay.
It is great to see that you both have the same knack for detail.
-Tim, it is exciting to start writing and seeing your reactions, not only to the site, but eventually the blog “content” heh.
Is your new blog the link that is on here, for Cyberbilt? Let me know if it isnt so I can check it out.
Thanks, and take care
No - The blog on Cyberbilt isn’t new…the new blog won’t be up for about a month or so. Initially, the blog on Cyberbilt was intended to be a webmaster blog, but never really materialized. It’s fate (the blog) is still undecided:) The directory will last forever…
Well, be sure to let me know when it is ready and where to find it so I can check it out.
